TEAM GCET WON OVERALL FIRST RUNNERS UP POSITION IN VOLCANO-2019

GCET lifted overall first runners up trophy in the Amul Volcano’2019, an intercollegiate cultural festival consisting of 32 events. The event was organized by Rotary Club, Anand Round Town, Anand in Town Hall in collaboration with Anand Nagarpalika from 11th to 17th February, 2019. Out of 32 events GCET won first prize in Vocal-Solo, Ad Enactment, Skit, On the spot painting & Scene-e-Magic, second prize in Antakshari, G.K.Quiz, Folk Orchestra, Western Group Song, Poster Making & Face Painting and third prize Indian Group Song, Classical Dance, Debate, Folk Dance, Voice, Personality Contest- male, Street Play and Collage making events. Thus by winning first in 5, second in 6 and third in 8 events; Scoring 43 points GCET won the title of First Runners up. 35 colleges from the surrounding locality took part in the said event. Tej Patel, Rohan Bharadia, Aatman Desai, Hari Desai, Aneri Shah, Disha Vaghmasi, Aditi Nanda and Jignesha Barot were the team leaders. Dr. Yogesh Chauhan coordinated all the events of volcano. Prof. Sneh Vyas and Prof. Geetali Saha supported him in building up the team. |

It is a matter of pride for the college that Aneri Shah from final year IT Branch won first prize in Vocal (solo) event for the fourth consecutive time in Volcano. She won position in Volcano'16,17,18 & 19. Dr. Yogesh Chauhan accompanied her on Tabla for all the four times and on harmonium the accompaniment was done by Viraj Mistry of Mechanical Branch in volcano'16,17 & 18 and Shubham Gor of Mechanical Branch in Volcano'19. |

Bhavsar Yash Anilkumar, Patel Dhruv Bhadreshkumar, Jariwala Devang Nareshbhai, Thakor Vedantkumar Babubhai and Pitroda Jalpesh Rajeshbhai students of Civil Engineering Department (2014-2018 batch) received “Gaurav Puraskar” award on 3rd March 2019 by Charutar Vidya Mandal on Vallabh Vidyanagar day celebration. The award is given by the chairman of CVM in the presence of principals, faculty members and non-teaching staff of all CVM institutes. The students received the first prize in “Institutional Innovation” category of Summer Innovation Challenge 2018 by august hands of Shri Vijaybhai Rupani, Hon. Chief Minitster of Gujarat. The team received memento, certificate and cash prize of ₹ 50,000/-. The project was guided by Dr. Snehal Popli. |

Mr. Chirag Kanagiyani, Third-year mechanical engineering student (170113119009) has filed an Indian patent on “HYBRID VERNIER- a multipurpose linear precision measuring instrument” (Application no. 201931006394, dated 18/02/2019). The proposed tool has a least count of 1 micron (0.001 mm), along with the ability to measure all the general purpose quantities and several essential quantities of threads and gears, as well. Which includes thread’s major diameter, minor diameter and pith, and gear’s tooth thickness and pitch. This tool is specifically customized for small production units [e.g. small industries, ancillary manufacturers, workshops and start-ups], with an aim to reduce their tooling cost/investment in inspection tools. In the areas where the batch size is limited [small] and the frequency at which these inspection processes are being conducted is relatively less, in a calendar year. |

Chemical Department receives huge research grant from Government of India

Chemical Engineering Department received a huge research grant of Rs. 98 lakhs 32 thousand for a research project on “A Novel eco-friendly hybrid process for enrichment of sodium lignosulphonate from digester black liquor of Prosopis juliflora hard wood” from Department of Science & Technology (DST), Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. The research team of scientists involved in the project includes Dr. Kaushik Nath, Dr. Suresh Panchani as Principal Investigator and Dr. Tejal M Patel and Dr. K K Tiwari are Co investigators. The project involves the utilization of black liquor from ‘Ganda Baowr’ hard-wood digestion for the production of ‘Sodium ligno- sulfonate’ – an important binder for vitrified tiles. Presently in India ligno-sulfonate is not produced commercially, it is imported from South Africa and China. It is a 3-year project whereby the project team will design, develop and run a pilot plant which will be very unique for a specialized application. The Chairman of CVM Er. Bhikhubhai Patel congratulated all the team members along with the Principal of GCET Dr. Himanshu Soni for getting such a project from DST. The chairman, CVM expressed his hope that by carrying out the project and setting up a pilot plant the department of Chemical Engineering will make a distinct difference in the field of research and development throughout Gujarat. |

Mehta merit medal and Patel Dhruv Bhadreshkumar received Shri R J Vyas merit medal by The Institution of Engineers (India), Gujarat state centre on 2nd December, 2018. Jalpesh and Mahipalsinh received the medals for securing highest marks in civil engineering branch and Dhruv received the medal for securing 2nd highest marks in civil engineering branch in the final degree examination for the year 2017-18 from Gujarat Technological University (S P University Range). |

Final year civil engineering students, Thacker KIshan Jagdishbhai, Thakkar Aaditya Vasantbhai, and Rohan Lakhani cleared the National Programme for Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) online exam (July-October 2018), a joint initiative from IITs and IISc to offer online courses and certificates for various topics. Thacker Kishan Jagdishbhai received the “Elite” certificate for “geotechnical engineering laboratory” course. Thakkar Aaditya Vasantbhai received successfully completed certificate for “Advanced concrete technology” course and Rohan Lakhani received successfully completed certificate for “Strength of Materials” course. |

A workshop on Python Programming was successfully organized by IEEE GCET Computer Society Student Chapter. It was attended by a total of 68 students. It was conducted in 2 sessions. The first session focused on the basics of installing Python. Basic syntax of Python program and variables were also illustrated. The second session focused on conditional and looping statements as well as built-in and user-defined functions of Python. The sessions were conducted by Mr. Maulik Rathod. |
