Department of Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering is often referred to as the basic engineering discipline because whatever field of engineering one wishes to major in, the basics of Mechanical Engineering come in handy in the effective design, development, and optimization of equipment and devices used in any industrial activity. Mechanical Engineering also plays a significant role in all types of design, selection, installation, maintenance, and upkeep of production facilities, in addition to the direct supervisory need of the shop floor. In addition, auxiliary units provide opportunities for self-employment to trained and enterprising mechanical engineers.

The demand for trained manpower is likely to increase manifold with increasing values, growing competition and greater sophistication in design, production and testing facilities. The Mechanical Engineering program at GCET was started in 1997 with an annual intake of 60 students, originally being affiliated to Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar till 2007, later to Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Ahmedabad (2008-2020). From academic year 2020-21 the GCET is now one of the constituent colleges under CVM University. Looking to the needs of the industries, the department took an initiative to start Post Graduate Program in Industrial Engineering in the year 2012 and Packaging Technology in year 2017. We are the pioneer in offering Masters program in Industrial Engineering in the state of Gujarat.

The department is well equipped with highly qualified and experienced faculty and supporting staff. As a quest for continuous improvement, the department is always on their toes to organize conferences, workshops, training programs etc. for the faculty and students. The department is encouraging the students to take up unique projects with more thrust on industry defined projects during their final year. All PG students of Industrial Engineering are pursuing their Dissertations at industries across the state on real-life industrial problems.
