On 11th Sep, we had an industrial visit at Indo-German Tool Room,
Ahmedabad. Indo-German Tool Room is a tool room and training center
engaged in production of tools of precision plastic and metal components
and also engaged in area of training in tool and die making, CAD/CAM and
CNC technology. We reached their by 10:00 AM and after quick
introduction, students including teachers were divided in two groups
among their guides. The very first section of the visit was of CNC
machines. They showed us the practical application and functions of CNC
lathes and VMC machines, which were fully automated. The students of
IGTR were given training for CNC programming and how to operate those
heavy machines practically. They also showed us injection molding
machine, the biggest machine we could see in the industry. The injection
molding machine was manufactured by Larsen & Toubro Company and it
was used to make certain plastic products like compressor covering of AC,
stools, etc. in two plate and three plate molds. There was a plasma
nitriding machine. Then they showed us Electrical Discharge Machine and
Wire Electrical Discharge Machine. Then we visited the quality control
section where 3D printing machines like laser sintering and rapid
prototyping machines were shown. There was a Coordinate Measuring
Machine too. When we completed the tour of whole industry, we were
provided lunch at their canteen at 1:00 PM. After the break and
refreshment of one hour, they conducted a seminar explaining us about
the designing software they used and how the concept of virtual
machining is taken in use. Overall, the industrial visit to IGTR was worth
productive and quite interesting as well.
