Information Technology Department of G H Patel College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), a Charutar Vidya Mandal Institute, Vallabh Vidyanagar, organized a workshop on “Introduction to Data Analytics”. It is coordinated by Prof. Miral Patel and Prof. Vinita Shah on 8th August, 2018 from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM and on 10th August, 2018 from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM under ISTE student chapter. The event was specially organized for the interested students from third year of Information Technology Department. Total 8 students participated in the workshop.
The aim of this workshop was to make the students aware about current research trends in the fields of Data Science particularly in Data Analytics. Workshop also aims to provide a platform to learn new tools and explore various application areas of Data Analytics. Prof. Miral Patel has conducted first session on Data Science. First Session was started by fundamental concept of Data and Information. Background and role of Data Science was explained with necessary examples. What is basic requirement for employment in Data Science stream was described. Later half of the session was delivered on technology of Data mining, Machine Learning and Data analysis tools. Real time example of classification, clustering was furnished to get basic understanding of the concepts. In the first session students got familiar with basics of Data analytics.
Prof. Vinita Shah has conducted second session. Session was started with real time examples of supervised learning, unsupervised learning, Machine Learning, Regression etc. and demonstration of various tools like WEKA, R tool, DB Miner, XL Miner and Rapid Miner are given. The main focus was to aware students that how to work with tools of Data Analytics. At the end of session, some research challenges in Data Analytics were discussed and demonstration was given in R tool.
At the end of workshop, the students took good amount of knowledge, which gives them good start to learn the concept in detail. Students have got a clear idea and understanding of Data Analytics field and related application. A wave of awareness as well as enthusiasm regarding the topics covered was seen among the students. The response of the participants was tremendous and their enthusiasm last till end of the session.
