IGBC Week Celebraion Theme Build Green-The Next Decade

        Department of Civil Engineering of G H Patel college of Engineering & Technology, Vallabh Vidyanagar (A Charutar Vidhya Mandal Institution) has organized various events as a part of IGBC week celebration on Build Green ? The Next Decade from September 9th to 23rd, 2016. It was organized in association with Indian Society of Technical Education. IGBC week celebration started with the Group Discussion on September 9th, 2016. About 40 students from 2nd year and 3rd year of Civil Engineering department participated with great enthusiasm. It was carried out between 4 Groups. In which two groups have to discuss the topic Concept Smart City vs. Rural Development... What India needs first and the remaining two have What must student pursue? Academics or Passion as their topic of discussion. Dr. Khadeeja Priyan (Head of Civil department & Convener of the IGBC celebration week) and Prof. Snehal Popli (Associate professor & Faculty co coordinator of IGBC celebration week) were the judges of this event. The aim of this event was to make students aware about Group Discussion and to release the stage fear and make them more confident. It was quite interesting for the audience as well as judges.Brijesh wala (3rd year Civil Engg.), Shehjad Pathan (3rd year Civil Engg.) and Waseem Raja (2nd year Civil Engg.) were the winners of this event. Overall the discussion was positive and each of them contributed good information. The second event was an expert talk on Entrepreneurship in Civil Engineering on September 16th, 2016. The session was conducted by Mr. Shailesh Gajjar (Architect and interior designer) on Technical Entrepreneurship-A life journey for setting up an Architect Firm. He explained us by delivering the basic information of entrepreneurship in civil engineering. He also mentioned how it is important for any civil engineer to read any drawing. He also covered the case studies on which he has worked in the past. General aptitude test was also conducted after the session. Overall it was a good interactive session and it will help students in the future. The third event organized by civil engineering department was one day symposium on Build Green ? The Next Decade on September 17th, 2016 as a part of IGBC Week Celebration. The first session was conducted by chief guest of the function, Mrs. Neetu Jain, Co-Chairperson IGBC Chapter, Vadodara. She started her session by a brief introduction about the green building and its importance. She also mentioned about the green rating system i.e. on which basis building gets gold, silver and platinum rating and she also covered the elements of green building. The second session was conducted by Guest of honour, Mr. Toshniwal Suhas Suresh, currently working at DBHMS consultant as energy analyst, focussing on Green Building principles and concepts. It was a good interactive session. After lunch break, the last session was conducted by Mr. Ketan Patel from Linde Engineering India Pvt. Limited, Vadodara. He started his session by explaining basic concepts about green building. He also mentioned about the implements done in Linde house, Channi, Vadodara. The fourth event organised by the civil engineering department was Technical Quiz on September 21st, 2016 as a part of IGBC week celebration. Around 90 students of 2nd year and 3rd year civil engineering participated in quiz. There was usual wide variety of topics ranging from general knowledge and technical knowledge of civil engineering. Three rounds were conducted in the quiz. The main aim of conducting quiz was to improve general awareness among students and prepare them to face the challenges of present day competitive world. The fifth event organized by civil engineering department of an exhibition of poster and models on Build Green ? The Next Decade which was held on September 23rd, 2016. In this event the students of 2nd year and 3rd year of civil engineering participated who were guided by the faculty members. All the students presented their posters to the judges and audience. The judges in turn also asked some question which were enthusiastically answered by the participants. The shear work of participants was appreciated by one and all. After this, prize distribution ceremony was held in which the winners of group discussion, technical quiz and poster making were awarded with the prizes. Dr. Khadeeja Priyan (Head of Civil department and Convener of the IGBC celebration week) delivered the vote of thanks to Prof. Ratansharan Panchal and Prof. Riddhi Vashi (Co coneveners of this IGBC week Celebration week), all faculty co ordinators, students coordinators and non teaching staff. Prof Poorav Shah and Prof. Ratansharan Panchal congratulated all on the success of IGBC week Celebration. Student coordinators ? Rushabh Shah and Nihar Shah shared their unforgettable experience of this whole IGBC week celebration. Lastly, with deserts showing gratitude and acknowledging all the people who made IGBC week celebration a grand success.
