National Conference Recent Advances in Computer Science & Technology (RACST-2016)

        Department of Computer Engineering Department, G. H. Patel College of Engineering & Technology organized a National Conference Recent Advances in Computer Science & Technology (RACST-2016) in association with Computer Society of India on 4th-5th October, 2016. The aim of organizing the conference was to gather the academia with a common interest and exchange the most cutting-edge ideas in the field of Computer Science & Technology. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. C. L. Patel, Chairman, Charutar Vidya Mandal and Dr. Himanshu. S. Mazumdar, Professor, EC and Head, R & D center, DDU, Nadiad. Shri. S. G. Patel, Hon. Secretary, CVM, Shri V.M. Patel, Hon. Joint Secretary, CVM, Dr. N. D. Jotwani, Founder Principal, GCET and Visiting Professor, DAIICT, Gandhinagar. Dr. Himanshu Soni, Principal, GCET, Dr. Maulika S. Patel, Head, Computer Engineering Department, GCET, Convener of the conference and Organizing Secretaries of the Conference, Prof. Hetal Gaudani and Prof. Priyang Bhatt were also present. Off the dais dignitaries included Prof J. C. Panchal, Former Principal, GCET and Prof S. V Vaishnav, Founder Principal, ADIT.The Inaugural Address was given by, Dr. H. S. Mazumdar. He highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary research and relevance of such conference in the present era. He later gave a keynote talk on Computational Intelligence for interdisciplinary research and highlights of the dry chemistry lab at DDU. Dr. N. D. Jotwani discussed the application of computer in designing a solar PV Pump controller. Dr. C. L. Patel gave his Presidential Remarks and blessed the organizers and the participants. The third keynote lecture was on The Keynote Lecture on High Performance Computing by Dr. Vibha Patel, Associate Professor, Nirma University, Ahmedabad. On the second day there were two sessions on Image processing and Video manipulation by Dr Sumantra Dutta Roy, Associate Professor, IIT Delhi. The third session of the day was on Some Technologies after 100 years: Trends and Impact and Big Data by L. M. Patnaik, Adjunct Professor and INSA Senior Scientist at NIAS, IISc Bangalore. The last keynote talk was by Dr. Anish Mathuria, DAIICT, Gandhinagar on Evolution of stack-based control hijacking attacks. Technical paper sessions were conducted on both days after thekeynote talks. Total 20 papers were presented on various technical topics. The technical sessions were chaired by Dr. Darshak Thakore, Professor and Head, Dept. of Comp., BVM, V. V. Nagar,Dr. Priti Sajja, Professor, Post Graduate Dept. of Comp. Sci., SPU, V. V. Nagar and Dr. Narendra Chauhan, Professor & Head, Dept. of IT, ADIT, V. V. Nagar.The conference concluded with the valedictory and certificate distribution by Dr. Himanshu Soni and Dr. Anish Mathuria. On 6th October, 2016, Dr. L. M. Patnaik had interaction with faculty members and discussed various areas on which research can be done. Also,the student's interaction session with Dr. L. M. Patnaik was arranged. He advised the students to take internships at IITs and also prepare for public sector jobs. He also discussed the importance of the GATE exams. Dr Patnaik concluded by mentioning that both faculty and students need greater exposure to the outside world and organizing and attending such events are extremely useful.
