Technical Event Civil Engineering IMAZE'17

Just when the theoretical aspects of learning began to threaten practicality and the mundane routine began to jeopardize the charm of learning, our omniscient patrons presented us with an opportunity to indulge in practicality, break the code by thinking out of the box and making our lives almost as fast as light, well that was exaggeration but you know what it means. IMAZE, a technical fiesta was conceived in the year of 2002 and it stands still like a north pole showcasing its success year by year. Following the same, IMAZE ’17, an extravaganza held at G H Patel College of Engineering & Technology. It consists of a multitude of technical and non-technical events, scintillating workshops, intriguing seminars, mesmerizing cultural events and fun on the spot games having alluring rewards to be won. As a package, it serves a perfect experience of combination of fun and presence of mind.

IMAZE 2017, the technical festival of GCET, was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm from 8th to 10th April, 2017 with the motto ‘Soaring beyond precipice’. This year, 16 Technical events and 10 non-tech events were organized. There was an educational expo for students who want to study abroad. Experts from various foreign consultancies were invited to guide the interested students. A project competition was organized for students of 4th year who presented their final year projects and competed with students from all across Gujarat. Prizes were given by GTU to the winners of this project competition. 6 workshops based on different subjects were also conducted. For the evenings, Bollywood night and cultural night were arranged, where there was music and dancing for all the students.

Civil Department had shown active participation in IMAZE 2017. There were two technical events organized by 2nd and 3rd year students of Civil Department. All the participants had shown great interest in the events and enjoyed them thoroughly. The overall coordination of events was managed by the branch heads Dhruv Patel, Anurag Tripathi and Yash Bhavsar 3rd year students under the guidance of Event Coordinator Prof. Nirajkumar Mandowara.

The first event coordinated by the students of 3rd year (Harsh Patel and is Tame the Torrent. The coordinators are Harsh Patel and Sohil Dadwanee. Tame the Torrent was divided in three major rounds. It was a competition for top spot. Various teams enrolled themselves to tame the rage of the torrent. The first round took place on 8th April, in which about 120 students participated. In this challenge, their aiming skills were tested and basic technical questions based on their fate were asked. 15 teams of 3 members (or 2 members) qualified the first storey of the event. The second round took place on 9th April. It was divided in two sub phases. The teams had to find a general clue and prove to be ‘flash’. The second phase was about chain surveying. 6 out of 15 teams had qualified. These teams had to measure the distance and 2 offsets. The best 2 teams were eligible to face the wrath of the torrent. The finalists had to fight for the top spot. The third round was on 10th April. For the final round, the teams had to construct a dam which can resist the raging torrent. The materials and time limit were fixed and the winner team managed it by entire 1 minute.

The second event from Civil department which was coordinated by 2nd year students (Shivani Khetani and Jenus Mehta) is Clash of Plans. Clash of Plans consisted of three rounds. The first round which took place in civil department garden consisted two games. The games included balloon shooting with air gun and a rapid fire round for each team of three members. The questions were general knowledge as well as basic civil engineering questions. Around 160 students came to take part in the event. Although only 60 students went on to round 2, all the students enjoyed the shooting as well as the quick responses they had to give! The next round which consisted of two elimination games was based on an American game show called Family Feud. This game got everyone on their feet to answer questions quickly in a limited amount of time. Only 15 students (in group of 3) went to the third round, in which they had to make a 3D model of a residential home, provided that the plot size and dimensions were given. The final round of the event was judged by Prof. Snehal Popli and Prof. Krunali Patel. Although all models were nice, the final prize went to second year students.
