TechknowTalk Club under the Department of Information Technology ,G H Patel College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), a constituent institute of Charutar Vidya Mandal , Vallabh Vidyanagar, organized an expert talk on “GitHub and Open Source Contribution” ,which was coordinated by Dr. Nikhil Gondaliya ,Professor & Head, IT department and Prof. Deven A. Gol , Assistant Professor, IT department on 5 th August 2020 from 6:00pm(IST) and was open to all disciplines and institutions.

The event was held online on the Google Meet platform. Approximately 90 participants attended the session. The speaker started by giving a basic idea of what open source contribution is, it's importance and the prerequisites to get started with it. He discussed various open source platforms available presently. He then gave some demonstrations on how to use Git and GitHub, how they are related , what are repositories and how to fork them, basic idea of branches, pull requests, updating a file, etc. This was followed by a short talk on GSoC(Google Summer of Code), how to apply for it, stipend offered, opportunities to be discovered,etc. The session ended with a question-answer round and a thank you note.
