Industrial visit of Kadana Hydro Power Station, Kadana (GSECL) for 2nd year UG students.

Department of Electrical Engineering has organized an industrial visit of Kadana Hydro Power Station, Kadana (GSECL) for 2nd year UG students. 59 students along with 3 faculty members visited the hydro power station on the mentioned date. KHPS has 4 units each of 60 MW. So, the total installed capacity of the plant is 240 MW. Following sections of the KHPS were visited. 1) Turbine floor 2) Control Room 3) Dam site AT the time of visit unit number 1 was in operation generating 57 MW power. The speed of the Kaplan turbine was 140 rpm. On the turbine floor, the students observed the wicket gates, servo mechanism to operate the gates, rotating shaft, exciter and other auxiliaries. In the control room, students observed the functioning of various control panels. The visit was very fruitful as the students observed each of energy conversion stages used in power plant starting from dam site to generator. Students collected very important information like practical data which are not available in books and other literature. Many of their doubts were cleared by the discussion with experts of the plant.
