It was a pleasant morning for the students of the third year Mechatronics
department. The department had organized an industrial visit to the “Indo-German Tool
Room", Ahmedabad.
On reaching the plant we were welcomed graciously by their delegates. Soon we
were escorted to their training section. We were divided into two batches and started our
tour from there onwards. Firstly, we were briefed about the Programmable Logic
Controllers. We were explained how they work and were also given a demonstration.
Then, we proceeded towards the manufacturing unit. In the beginning, we saw the
molding machines. Moving ahead in the workshop, we saw the 5-axis robotic arms which
they use for training purposes. Further, we saw Vertical Milling Machines, Electrical
Discharge Machines and Wire Electrical Discharge Machines. Next, we were shown the
variety of products the company used to manufactures. It ranges from buckets to pump
casing to magazines used in guns by military. We left the company, had lunch at Gayatri
Restaurant and we reached the college.
This visit gave us a great insight in how the industries work and various
conventional and non-conventional manufacturing processes. We would like to extend
our thanks to the Mechatronics Department, the faculty involved and the college for
making this visit possible.
