Organizational Visit to "INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CENTER"

       

Information Technology Department of G H Patel College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), a Charutar Vidya Mandal Institute, Vallabh Vidyanagar, organized a Industrial Visit to “Information Technology Center (ITC)”, which was coordinated by Prof. Jaymit Pandya and Prof. Jay Vala on 29th January, 2019 from 10.15 AM to 1:15 PM .

The visit was specially organized for the students of final year of Information Technology Department who have opted for Cloud Infrastructure and Services. Total 28 students participated for the visit. Main focus of the visit was to provide practical knowledge about Cloud Infrastructure and Services and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Cloud Infrastructure refers to the hardware and software components such as servers, storage, network and virtualization software that are needed to support the computing requirements of a cloud computing model. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a global public cloud provider and as such, it has to have a global network of infrastructure to run and manage its many growing cloud services that support customers around the world. A cloud service is any service made available to users on demand via the internet from a cloud computing provider’s servers as opposed to being provided from a company’s own on-premises servers. Learning interest in these fields has grown rapidly over the years. Learning about all these will help to students to have idea about technologies in vogue.

The students departed for visit at 10.05 AM from college campus and reached there by 10.25AM. The students then assembled in ITC Hall where the expert briefed them about the latest technologies and trends in IT Sector. The students got familiar with Cloud Computing, Infrastructure of servers, Concept of Virtualization and more. The main focus of this session was to provide idea about how to setup private servers for an institute along with solution to overcome the problem associated with the same. Moreover, expert explained the theoretical concept of virtualization and various AWS services. With the completion of session the students visited the server room of ITC where they were shown the practical implementation of the Blade server which the organization has setup for their private use. The expert first explained the components used for setting up a server such as fiber optics cable which were used for connection to provide higher speed and bandwidth, hard drives for storage, hot swappable hard disks, sophos for communication endpoint, encryption, network security, email security, mobile security and threat management, PC for managing the running server,etc.
