Information Technology Department of G H Patel College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), a Charutar Vidya Mandal institute, Vallabh Vidyanagar, organized an expert talk on “Data Science”, which was conducted by Dr. Nikhil Gondaliya Professor & Head and Prof. Deven A. Gol, Assistant Professor, IT department at GCET on 24th January 2019 under TechknowTalk Club. This expert talk was specially organized for the second year and third year students of IT department for understanding basic concepts of data science. There were 37 students present for the talk. Main objective of this event was to make students of 2nd year and 3rd familiar with concepts of data science its some popular methods, tools and applications of data science and scope in data science.

The speaker started the seminar with the basic concepts of Data Science and by talking about types of problems that can be solved using data science. She then talked about different methods in data science like classification, clustering, supervised learning, semi supervised learning etc. In this session students developed a brief understanding of data science and also got to know about the job opportunities present in this field. She explained how to apply data science by taking some real life examples. And the main focus was to clear difference between classification, clustering, supervised learning, unsupervised learning, semi supervised learning, etc. And what are applications of the same. So students can know which method to apply in a particular application.
