A one day Student Skills Development Programme "IGNITE-16" for first year students

        A one day programme"IGNITE16 was organized on 4th March, 2016 for first year students to help them in gaining knowledge of career paths and necessary skills. The event was organized under GTU?s Student Skills Development Programme. Three expert lectures delivered their talks. The first session began with the talk of Mr. S U Masurkar, CEO, Akaish Mechatronics on career awareness for engineers. He emphasized the need of technical and fundamental knowledge.Habit of reading is essential to accomplish this. He advised students not to waste much time in activities such as internet or social media, etc. Rather, to spend time for physical exercise or yoga etc. is more beneficial. He also distributed a sheet containing ten commandments of success and Key To Your Career Progress After showing some academic videos, the first session was ended. Prof. Sulbha Natrajan, Director, Waymade College of Education delivered a lecture on "Communications Skills for Engineers" in the second session. She started with some videos on why communication does not become effective in certain situations. She also made the session interactive by dividing the students into three groups and asking each group a separate question for discussion. At last, she explained the actual meaning of "Communication" After tea break, the third session was conducted by Prof. M H Vasavada, Former Head, Department of Mathematics, SPUniversity. He explained the role of Mathematics in Science and Engineering. He described that how a physical problem can be converted into mathematical model. He explained howthe same mathematical technique becomes useful to solve two very different kinds of situations. To illustrate this, he gave an example of a differential equation having same form can be used in a mechanical as well as electrical problem. He concluded hissession by describing several applications of mathematics in engineering Students appreciated the programme and they realized that this kind of programme is useful.
