Industrial Visit at Megmani Finechem Pvt Ltd, Dahej

On the day of 8 July 2017 students of second year chemical engineering branchhad industrial visit at Megmani fine chemicals Ltd. Dahej Dist-Baruch Gujarat. As soon as we reached we were welcomed warmly by the authorities and offered us the breakfast. Then the all students were divided into two groups one of which was headed by Prof. Dr. R.R.Nagarajan which initially visited chemical plant while other group was headed by Prof. Dipen V.Chauhan which visited Power generation plant. For any industry power requirement is the foremast thing. Here also Megmani produced power from water converted to steam. Raw water coming from municipality of Dahej is heated directly through sun in a pool and then stored in reservoir having capacity of 31,533 cubic fed through pump in water cleaner section where, water contains many impurities so it is essential to remove those impurities removed by various method and finally to DM plant. All these process are adopted to make demineralize water which can be used in boiler.Boiler makes the steam of water which is used for power generation. Number of turbine for power generation is three. The revolution speed of generation is around 1500 rpm while that for turbine is 6800 rpm.So this was overview of how power is generated through water and itssupply. For CP plant visit, we were guided by Miss Vaibhavi Joshi for further information. First the basic thing of increasing the concentration of NaCL is done by counter current process. From upper end NaCL is added and through bottom water is added. The mixture is then filled in overhead huge cylinderdome where some chemicals were added so that content of Cl decrease by evaporation. Along with Cl and Na2CO3 and all other such soluble compounds are also removed. By electrolysis of NaCl through certain membrane about 30% pure NaOH is obtained while remaining is water. Again by filtration and heating amount of water is remove to make more concentrated NaOH is obtained. Along with NaOH being main product chlorine (liquid) and hydrogen gas is by product of the plant. These products are made to react and forms HCL. Chlorine gas is treated under special conditions with use of 3 compressors to convert gaseous form to liquid. All the liquid chlorine is filled in yellow cylinder under high pressure with special design of cylinder. The industrial visit for this company completed successfully with gained lots of information and knowledge related to basic and core aspects of chemical engineering.
