One week Short Term Training Program on "Applications of Remote Sensing and GIS in Civil Engineering"

Department of Civil Engineering of G H Patel college of Engineering and Technology,Vallabh Vidyanagar (A Charutar Vidhya Mandal Institution) has organized a One week Short Term Training Program on, "Applications of Remote Sensing and GIS in Civil Engineering" from25th-30thApril, 2016.The STTP was organized inassociation with Indian Society ofGematics.66 participants, including students and faculty members attended STTP On the first Day, the program began with the first session by Dr. T. I. Eldho on"GIS and Remote Sensing and Applications in Water Resources Management"which has given the idea about the Remote sensing (RS), Basics, Features of remotesensing, Remote sensing process and advantages, Importa nt satellites, Image processing. Next session was again conducted by Dr. T.I. Eldho on topic "Watershed Based rainfall-runoff Mode ling/ Flood Simulation Using Numerical Methods , GIS and Remote Sensing Techniques. He mentioned aboutApplications of Remote sensing in surface water and groundwater, Applications of remote sensing in Watershed Management. After the Tea break , third session of the day was taken by Dr. P. M. Udani on the topic "Remote sensing and GIS applications" He explained the basics of GIS and different applications if GIS regarding Natural Resources Management. On second Day,First session of the day was conducted by Dr.H. N. Kapse on the topic "Concepts of Remote Sensing:Civil Engineering perspective",which gave the idea about which was followed by lab sessions. He explained about Significance of spectral signature in Remote Sensing for soil and water.Next session was conducted by Miss Shubhangi Mane(ESRI Unnati Patel(ISTAR).In the lab sessions participants were given the knowledge on using different basic features of the software such as, georeferencing, creating shape file and Geo database, to extract data from a large area using query, clip and buffer etc.On fourth day, first session was conducted by Prof. Vasu Pancholi on topic "Geo-technical studies for Seismic Microzonation". He had given the brief idea about the ISR and ifferent research work in ISR.He further explained Seismic Microzonation and "A Case Study Geotechnical Investigations" for Ahmadabad City, Gujarat. Afternoon session conducted by Shri J. P. Jani on "Land survey and Land Records".He informed participants about the rules and regulation about the survey of land and measurement of land for different purposes. Next session was conducted by Shri Bhavesh Takodia about "Design, Development and Implementation of Web based GIS Application A long with GIS Database At Surat Municipal Corporation". He introduced about SMC Web GIS Application and GIS data specification. On a fifth day,Industrial Visit to Indian Space Re search Organization (ISRO),Ahmedabad where the participants were updated by the work of ISRO ,Mangalyan and the basics of satellites launched by ISRO. Then the participants headed towards Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics (BISAG) where the participants got the idea about use of spatial and geo-spa tial technologies for the planning and developmental activities pertaining to Agriculture, Land and Water Resource Management, Wasteland/Watershed Development, Forestry, Disaster Management, Infrastructure and Education. And lastly to the Institute of Sei smological Research (ISR), Gandhinagar where the participants informed about Earthquake Monitoring Program , Crustal Deformation Study by GPS Measurements , Geophysical Surveys by visiting the laboratories
