Industrial Visit to Baroda International Airport

        A rare and worth experiencing visit to Vadodara International Airport was organized by Department of Civil Engineering,GCET on 8th July 2016.The airport is in construction stage managed by general manager, N. K. Sukla, Civil Engineer. He gave us the brief introduction about the airport including the general and technical details. The airport is said to be Gujarat?s first and Country?s 2nd Green airport after chandigadh terminal.The international airport, Vadodara comprised of 3 sections namely Terminal building, Food court, Service block.Total area of the airport is 17,500 sq. mwhich is Four times more than the domestic airport which is present in Harni area. Mr. shukla and his colleagues explained regarding Green approach of the airport, Common facilities, security, problem faced during the projects,and technical view of structure. Features that we discussed with Airport team: ?The airport has got a Green certification from GRIHA & TERI. Pile foundation with that coarse aggregate layer of 6 m. Surface car park is for 250 cars, 100 Taxi, 50 VIP cars & 10 coaches. Enriched by landscaping which adds to the aesthetic appearance.Can handle 500 domestic people and 200 International people at peak hours. ?A unique chemical was used on granite to a void dampness due to condition named ?stain coat?. ?The structure comprised of a whole span truss. ?Modern class facilities like VIPlounge, escalators,etc ?Proper sanitation facilitiesand rainwater harvesting on Roof tops. ?Food court and service blocks in the premises. ?World class security with Emergency sirens, CCTV?s, metal detectors etc.
