On 3rd February, 2017, J K White Cement Ltd. organized a seminar on properties, composition and applications of white cement. The speaker of the seminar was Mr.S. P. Arora who has 25 years of experience in this field.He started the seminar by describing the composition of the white cement. White cement comprises of compounds of calcium,silicon, aluminum and iron. The oxides of iron are responsible for the color of cement. The amount of iron oxide in grey cement is about 4-5% and in white cement it is 0.12%. Then he threw some light on clinker chemistry and its composition.After this, he explained the manufacturing process of white cement and explained each step in detail. He also mentioned use of efficient fuel for combustion in the manufacturing process. Pet coke which is a by -product of petroleum industry and it has proved to be a very good fuel with high calorific value and less Sulphur content.After that, he explained the various tests to be carried on white cement for the determination of its properties. The tests were Fineness test, whiteness, strength, etc. Then we were also informed about the applications of white cement for various purposes. Then we also came to knew about blended cement, the addition of pozzolonic materials in the cement to increase its strength and also decrease pollution. It is found that for the production of 1 metric ton of cement, 2 tons of lime is used and 1 ton of carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere, thus a major source of pollution.
