INDUSTRIAL VISIT AT NIRMA, SAVLI

The Chemical Engineering Department, GCET had organised an industrial visit to Nirma Limited Alindra Savali on 15/02/2019(Friday). 30 students of second and third year chemical engineering along with Prof. Haresh K Dave and Prof. Dipen V Chauhan had attended the visit. Mr A K Maheshwari, training incharge of the plant briefed us about the course of the day. Mr Chirag Sinde, who works as a process engineer at Nirma happened to be an alumni of our college. He gave us an informative presentation on the entire working of the plant, procurement of raw materials, Nirma’s market share etc. The main product of the plant is LAB (Linear Alkyl Benzene), which is an important raw material in detergent industry. Raw materials like Kerosene oil is obtained from IOCL, Vadodara and Benzene is procured from Reliance. We were divided into two groups and visited the plant in turns. We started with the control room where we saw SCADA in operation. Mr Subhash Kathiriya, shift engineer guided us as we started with the front end section where the oil is converted into olefins. We were all excited to see distillation columns, adsorption, and strippers in operation. Back end section converts the oil into the main product, LAB. The plant was really well maintained and hygenic. One unique thing about the plant is that the entire process is enclosed, we never saw the raw materials or the products. We are very thankful to Nirma and our department for organising this industrial visit.
