Salient features of the project outcome.A novel, cheap and abundantly available agrowaste raw material has been identified for the preparation of activated carbon. A very good quality activated carbon with BET surface area of 595.05 m2g 1, which is much higher than similar types of activated carbons as reported in literature. A novel regeneration technique by the use of microorganism has been developed. The process has immense potential for dephenolation of aqueous waste water streams.Has the potential for scale up to cater the need of an industrial effluent treatment process.
